Time for government to act on cocktail of cyclists and cars

Okay, let’s get it out of the way: 1. Bikes can overtake on the left, as long as the car is not indicating and turning left (Australian Road Rules regulation 141). 2. People getting out of cars must not cause a hazard to anyone (regulation 269). So dooring incidents, like the one in Collins St, Melbourne last week, are nearly always the car occupants’ fault. As a cycling fan, there is something troubling about the case of Lance Armstrong. The seven-time Tour de France winner issued a statement on August 23 that he would not participate in the US Anti-Doping Agency arbitration process against him and he now stands to be banned for life for using EPO, blood doping, testosterone, corticosteroids and masking agents to enhance his performance.
